We left Gualala around 8:00 Tuesday Morning for Bakersfield. We had a stop at Harris Ranch for Lunch/Dinner and then on to our first destination at Bakersfield for the evening.
We left Bakersfield this morning after breakfast and figured it was 445 miles to Zion. Each one of us drove for 110 miles and we kept the conversation going so that the time went by quickly.
We had dinner tonight at the lodge where we are staying and it was excellent. Check it out at http://driftwoodlodge.net. Tomorrow we will be taking the shuttle to Zion and doing our first hikes. I will put the hikes we do on the site. So make sure you check us out.
Thursday Morning: Left at 7:15 to catch the shuttle in front of the Driftwood Lodge and too our first hike: Click Here to see where we went. For pictures Click Here
Thursday Afternoon: Emerald Pools Trail Click Here to learn about the Emerald Pools. For Pictures Click Here. One of the really fun and interesting thing were the Canyon tree Frogs who sound a lot like bleating sheep. Listen Here They are really tiny little things, maybe 2 inches long but very very loud and very actively mating.
Friday: Today was a very strenuous hiking day. Got up and left to catch the shuttle at 6:45, so we all had to get up early. Today we did the Observation Point hike, Click Here for a description of the hike. For Pictures Click Here The surprise of the day was coming upon a rattle snake. He was a very large one but he slithered away without harming anyone. We were tired ladies when we finished this hike. We started the hike at 7:40 and arrived at the top, which is straight up, at 11:00. We sat and had lunch for about 1/2 hour and then started down. We arrived at the bottom around 2:00, got the shuttle and arrive back at the Inn about 3. Tomorrow we leave for Bryce National Park. Please go up to the tabs on the top of the page and click on “Bryce Park” to continue along with us.
